演講簡介：
This presentation examines normative structures reflected in the website design of one of Austria’s largest domestic work platforms and analyzes their implications for working conditions and relations. The methodological design consists of walkthrough method, discursive interface analysis and 15 problem-centered interviews with female gig-based cleaners operating in private households in Vienna. Findings reveal that household workers are visually portrayed as potential dating partners - without their knowledge or approval. This depiction reinforces the idea that customers should have an interest in an erotic encounter with domestic laborers, which is also reflected in the experiences of home cleaners under study, who report lookism and regular requests for sexual favors by male clients.
講者簡介：
Laura Wiesböck is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies. She holds a doctorate in Sociology from the University of Vienna including international exchanges at Oxford University, University of Syracuse or University of Ghana. Her research interests lie in social inequality with a focus on gender and labor market. The sociologist was granted several prizes in recognition of her academic work.
