自1980年代以來,臺灣的流行音樂反映了對環境惡化的關注,許多歌曲涉及污染、社會正義以及石化產業的影響。本研究聚焦於批判石化產業污染與環境破壞的作品,包括新寶島康樂隊、豬頭皮、生祥樂隊與農村武裝青年等音樂人的歌曲與專輯。借鑒文學學者勞倫斯·布厄爾(Lawrence Buell)的理論,Guy 認為流行歌曲中的文化訊息是「環境想像的實踐」,能夠培養同理心,使聽眾與地方產生連結,想像不同的未來,並加深對自然的關懷。
Since the 1980s, Taiwan’s popular music has reflected concerns about environmental degradation, with many songs addressing pollution, social justice, and the impact of industries like petrochemicals. This paper focuses on works that critique pollution and environmental damage caused by the petrochemical industry, including songs and albums by New Formosa Band (新寶島康樂隊), Zhu Yuexin (豬頭皮), Sheng-Xiang & Band (生祥樂隊), and Village Armed Youth Band (農村武裝青年).
Building on literary scholar Lawrence Buell’s work, Guy asserts that the cultural messages found in popular songs are “acts of the environmental imagination” helping listeners empathize with others, reconnect with places, envision alternative futures, and care more about nature.
講者介紹
Nancy Guy 是來自加州大學聖地牙哥分校的音樂系教授,同時也是UCSD新成立之臺灣研究中心的共同主任,以及首任陳秋山謝節惠台灣研究校長講座教授。作為音樂學者,她的研究領域涵蓋臺灣與中國的音樂、生態文學批評視角下的音樂研究、各類戲曲(包括歐洲與中國的戲曲形式)、以及音樂與國家政治的關係。她的第一本書《臺灣的京劇與政治》Peking Opera and Politics in Taiwan榮獲ASCAP巴托克民族音樂學卓越獎。第二本書《貝弗莉・席爾斯的魔力》The Magic of Beverly Sills則被美國大學與研究圖書館協會旗下的書評雜誌 Choice 評為「高度推薦的學術著作」。她最近編輯一本合輯《響亮台灣:活躍之島的音樂迴響(Resounding Taiwan: Musical Reverberations Across a Vibrant Island)》。
Nancy Guy is a Professor of Music at the University of California, San Diego, and the inaugural holder of the Chiu-Shan and Rufina Chen Chancellor’s Endowed Chair in Taiwan Studies. At UCSD, she also serves at the Co-director of the recently established Center for Taiwan Studies. As a music scholar, her research has focused on the musics of Taiwan and China, the ecocritical study of music, varieties of opera (including European and Chinese forms), and music and state politics. Her current book project centers on music and environmentalism in Taiwan. Guy’s first book, Peking Opera and Politics in Taiwan (University of Illinois Press, 2005) won the ASCAP Béla Bartók Award for Excellence in Ethnomusicology. Her second book, The Magic of Beverly Sills (University of Illinois Press, 2015) was named a “Highly Recommended Academic Title” by Choice, the review magazine of the Association for College and Research Libraries. Her most recent book is an edited volume, Resounding Taiwan: Musical Reverberations Across a Vibrant Island (Routledge, 2022).
