張廷碩 Chang, Ting-She (he/him)

我的核心關懷是各種社會機構，如何進行照護工作。特別是封閉的全控機構，如監獄、軍隊、精神病院等等，如何回應、平衡照護與其他社會任務的衝突。我的博士論文研究深入臺灣各地的監所，訪談和田野觀察監獄如何照護身陷囹圄的收容人，如何平衡懲罰、教化、作業與照護間可能的衝突。我同時關注監所環境與制度規範對收容人的影響。除了收容人之外，我也關注監所工作人員，我認為只是要求其注重收容人的人權或強調工作人員是在執行法律要求都無法深入問題，我們必須要深入照護與懲罰的現場，看到雙方的實作。照護不是一套事先的安排，而是需要反覆調整修補，以回應各種需求與變化。我的研究作品已發表於臺灣社會學刊。

除了社會學研究外，我也具有醫學學位。我是一名合格的兒童青少年精神科醫師，我在臨床實作中，融入社會學的想像：我認為當代臺灣的精神醫療現場，需要多納入求診者的聲音，更注重他（她）們的社會位置與結構條件，但同時尋找出富有創意與照護的解方。

My research concern is how care is delivered in social institutions. In particular, I investigate how total institutions, such as prisons, the military, mental hospitals, etc., balance the conflict between care and other societal tasks. My doctoral dissertation goes deep into prisons and other correctional facilities across Taiwan, using interviews and field observations to observe how prisons care for inmates and balance the conflicts between punishment, education, work, and care. I also pay attention to the health impact of the prison environment and institutional norms on inmates. In addition to the inmates, I am also concerned about the prison staff. I think that just asking to pay attention to the human rights of the inmates or emphasizing that the staff are implementing legal requirements cannot go deep into the problem. We must go deep into the scene of care and punishment to see the implementation on both sides. Care is not a predetermined set of arrangements but is constantly adjusted in response to various needs and changes. My original research has been published in the Taiwanese Journal of Sociology.

In addition to sociological training, I also hold a medical degree. I am a licensed child and adolescent psychiatrist. As a physician sociologist, I incorporate sociological imagination into my clinical practice. I believe contemporary mental healthcare in Taiwan needs to include more voices from the patients and pay more attention to their social and structural position. But at the same time, we must find creative and caring solutions. All of them need sociological insights.
